Natural Arkansas (novaculite) Bench stones have been prized for centuries for their unique sharpening properties.
Novaculite stones are much treasured by those whose very livelihood depend on the sharpness of their knives, axe blades, and tools. Formed of pure silica under intense heat and pressure below the earth's surface, novaculite has the additional ability of polishing as it sharpens. Our Natural Arkansas Bench stones are cut from carefully selected novaculite and permanently mounted to a solid walnut block, elevating the stone for greater sharpening ease and hand protection. These are available in two grades; soft and hard. The soft Arkansas is used to achieve on a sharp edge and the Hard Arkansas when on a very fine edge is desired.
